The detention facility was formed in May 1992 and was run by the Crisis Staff of the Rogatica Municipality. The prisoners were mostly Bosniaks. The prisoners were subjected to abuse and sexual violence, and 40 prisoners were killed in the camp and its vicinity.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) convicted Momčilo Krajišnik, the wartime speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, for crimes committed in Rogatica, under the doctrine of command responsibility, and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.Radovan Karadžić, as the president of Republika Srpska and commander in chief of its armed forces, was sentenced to life imprisonment. The Court of BiH convicted Radisav Ljubinac for crimes against humanity committed in the Municipality of Rogatica and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. The Court of BiH convicted Dragoje Paunović for crimes against humanity committed in the Municipality of Rogatica and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
