Zenica Penitentiary

Importance of the locality:

Buildings of the Zenica Penitentiary complex were used during the past war from 1992 to 1995 not just to house convicted criminals, but also as sites of detention for Serb and Croat civilians and soldiers. Prisoners were subjected to detention, forced labour, inhumane conditions, and interrogations and abuse. The facility was run by units of ARBiH and the RBiH Ministry of Interior.
