Importance of the locality:
In mid-1992, a detention facility was established under the control of civilian and military authorities of the Konjic Municipality in buildings formerly belonging to the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) in Čelebići near Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most of the prisoners who were detained here between April and December 1992 were Serb men captured during or after military operations in the villages of Bradina and Donje Selo and the surrounding area. Most of the prisoners were men, but women were also detained at this camp. The prisoners were killed, tortured, sexually abused, beaten and otherwise subjected to cruel and inhuman treatment.

Court trials:
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia convicted the following persons of wilfully causing great suffering or serious injury, unlawful confinement of civilians, wilful killings, torture, inhuman treatment (grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions): Zdravko Mucić, commander of the camp, sentenced to 9 years in prison; Hazim Delić, deputy commander of the camp, sentenced to 18 years in prison; and Esad Landžo, guard, sentenced to 15 years in prison.
